Garmin Fenix 8 Pro Series Introduces Cellular and Satellite Connectivity

Garmin has unveiled its Fenix 8 Pro series of smartwatches, featuring both cellular and satellite connectivity through InReach technology. This allows users to leave their phones behind while maintaining communication and access to vital features. The series includes a new 4,500-nit MicroLED display, though the price tags are steep—starting at $1,199.99 and reaching $1,999.99 for the MicroLED version. While the watches provide access to voice messages, real-time weather updates, and location sharing via the Garmin Messenger app, users cannot make traditional calls or send SMS messages. Cellular connectivity is limited to LTE-M networks, offering data connections but no phone number. Satellite connectivity allows users to send texts and location updates. For emergency situations, both satellite and cellular options support SOS requests via Garmin’s Response Center. The watches are available in two sizes (47mm and 51mm) and are priced based on size and display type, with a battery life ranging from 10 days (MicroLED version) to 27 days (OLED). However, users will need an active subscription, starting at $7.99 per month, for satellite or LTE connectivity, and coverage is not available in all countries. The Fenix 8 Pro series goes on sale on September 8th.
