Elie Habib, CEO of Anghami, a major Middle Eastern music streaming platform, created World Monitor, an open-source dashboard designed to track global conflicts in real time. Initially a side project, Habib built the platform to make sense of the increasing complexity of international news, integrating over 100 data streams including military aircraft positions, maritime traffic, satellite detections, and internet outages. Unlike traditional news aggregators, World Monitor uses a multi-tiered source verification system combined with a convergence algorithm that highlights credible events based on multiple simultaneous signals. The platform rapidly gained traction when U.S. and Israeli strikes in Iran disrupted air and maritime traffic, drawing millions of users worldwide. Habib continues to develop the system, adding new features such as instant alerts, Telegram intelligence retrieval, and risk advisories for embassies. While not intended as a business, World Monitor is evolving toward predictive capabilities, aiming to identify patterns before events become public news. Its success demonstrates how scalable data systems from streaming technology can be adapted to real-time geopolitical monitoring, offering a transparent, non-editorialized tool for analysts, governments, and the public alike.
