PotencIA Mx launches as an AI-powered accelerator to democratize access to open-source LLMs for Mexican startups

PotencIA Mx marks a strategic collaboration between Meta, Tecnológico de Monterrey through incMTY Innovación Corporativa, and the Mexican government to accelerate AI adoption across Mexican startups and small to medium enterprises. The initiative centers on deploying open-source large language models, such as Meta’s Llama, to help companies integrate AI into their business models, improve processes, and unlock new growth avenues. The program aims to democratize access to advanced language models by providing a structured accelerator with three phases: a bootcamp in November, a multi-month acceleration with tailored mentorship and technology maturity assessments, and a Demo Day in 2026 where selected ventures will present to investors and ecosystem leaders. Two awards are planned: one for a SME with international expansion (soft landing) and another for a startup awarded a business trip to explore global opportunities. The effort responds to a Morning Consult finding that most Mexican SMEs see Meta solutions as essential to survival and seeks to shift dependence toward strategic, value-creating AI capabilities. The project emphasizes open-source collaboration, technological sovereignty, and ethical, responsible AI adoption aligned with productivity, digital inclusion, and international competitiveness. This initiative envisions a transformative laboratory rather than a conventional accelerator, uniting academia, private sector, and government to make AI a accessible and strategic resource for Mexico’s innovation ecosystem.
