Spotify Restores Service After Widespread Global Outage
Spotify has confirmed that its platform is now back to normal following a global outage that affected tens of thousands of users. The music streaming giant experienced technical difficulties on Wednesday around 13:30 GMT, as reported by Downdetector, with over 20,000 users unable to use key features like search or artist browsing. Although downloaded music continued to work, users encountered errors when trying to access the app’s online functionalities, such as a ‘something went wrong’ message and failed refresh attempts. Spotify addressed the issue on social media, assuring users they were investigating. The company emphasized that rumors of a security hack were false, though it did not provide a specific cause for the disruption. The outage frustrated many users, some of whom were in the middle of workouts or study sessions. Several even expressed intentions to switch to competing platforms like Apple Music or YouTube. Spotify, which boasts over 675 million users globally, resolved the issue within hours and confirmed that services had resumed as normal.
